AmeriWay Privacy Policy
Effective date: November 2, 2026
AmeriWay is a translation app for Android, from Google Play. It is made by AmeriWay Technologies LLC ("AmeriWay", "we", "us"). This policy explains what the app sends, who receives it, what we keep and for how long. It covers the Google Play app and this website.
The short version
- We do not keep recordings of your voice or of the people you talk with. Sound is translated and then thrown away.
- We do not keep what was said or what was on your screen. The one exception is a line you mark as wrong yourself (section 1).
- To translate, the sound or text goes to our servers on Google Cloud and to the speech and translation services of OpenAI and Google. They may not use it to train their models (section 3).
- We do not sell your information, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
- We do not keep voiceprints and do not identify who is speaking.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
1. What the app sends and what we keep
Listening (conversation)
When you press Listen, the app uses your phone's microphone. On a paid plan, the sound goes over an encrypted connection to our servers. There it is turned into text and translated, and the text and a voice come back to your phone. To hear the next phrase better, the speech service also receives up to the last 800 characters of what it heard before. The sound and the text are held only while they are being translated and are not stored.
To choose the right grammar (for example the male or female form of a verb in Russian or Ukrainian) and a matching voice, the server estimates from the pitch of the voice, and from a voice print of each phrase made in memory, whether it sounds male or female. The print is thrown away as soon as the estimate is made. Only the estimate stays, in memory, until the session ends, and it goes back to your phone. We do not identify speakers and do not keep voiceprints.
The microphone works only while Listen is on. A notification shows the whole time it is on.
Apps (voice-over of other apps)
When you turn on Apps, Android asks your permission to capture the sound of other apps. That sound goes to our servers in the same way as Listening and is not stored. To keep speakers apart in the subtitles, the server compares voices within that one session; nothing about the voices is kept after it ends. Some apps block this capture, and then nothing is sent from them.
Camera and screen
When you use the camera or Screen mode, the text in the picture is read on your phone. Only that text goes to our servers for translation. The text is translated and not stored. The camera also names things it sees, on your phone. When you tap a thing to ask what it is, a small square of the picture around your finger (384 pixels across) goes to our servers and to Google's Gemini on Google Cloud to name it. That square is used for the answer and not stored. No other part of a picture is sent. If you keep a word with its picture, the picture stays on your phone, locked with a key that only this app on this phone has. In glasses mode, with Viture glasses plugged in, the glasses' own camera reads text in front of you the same way, also while the phone is locked: the text is read on your phone and only that text goes to our servers for translation. No picture from the glasses camera is kept or sent. In classroom mode (Android 13 and up), the glasses show the camera's live picture with the translations on it. That picture also shows on the phone's screen, also while the phone is locked. It is not kept or sent.
Say it back (learning English)
When you practice an English line, the app records up to 8 seconds and sends it to our servers to check what was heard. The recording and the result are not kept.
On your phone only
Without a paid plan, or when our servers cannot be reached, recognition and translation run on your phone. The app downloads the language files from our servers and from Google once. After that, what you hear and see stays on your phone. Google's on-phone translation (ML Kit) may send Google technical information about how it runs, but not your text.
The app saves your Listen and Apps sessions (what was heard and its translation) on your phone, in History, locked with a key that only this app on this phone has. They are not sent to us. They are deleted after 30 days, or after the 7 or 90 days you choose in Settings, and you can delete one or all of them in History at any time. Screen text and camera cards are not saved. The app keeps your settings and the key that signs you in to our servers. The app is excluded from phone backups.
Your account
To buy a plan you sign in with Google. Google tells us your Google account number and your email address. We do not keep either one as it is. We keep a one-way code made from the account number, to know you next time, and a one-way code made from the email address, used only to match a deletion request you send us by email. We also keep your plan, how many minutes you used this month, the family members you invited, and the keys that keep you signed in. A key ends after 30 days without use, or 90 days in all.
Subscriptions
Payment is handled by Google Play. We receive a confirmation that a subscription is active and when it ends, not your card or bank details. We keep the plan, the end date and a one-way code made from Google Play's purchase number.
Problem reports and lines you mark as wrong
If you send a problem report, we receive what you type (up to 2,000 characters) and the app's state: app version, Android version, phone model, connection, which modes were on and which audio outputs were connected. Our software sorts the report so the right answer goes back; for that, the text may go to the same translation services named in section 3.
If you mark a translated line as wrong, we receive that line: up to 200 characters of what was heard and up to 200 characters of its translation, whether it was heard or translated wrong, what it should say if you type it, the two languages, which modes were on, the app version and phone model, together with your account. We use it to find and fix mistakes. You can mark at most 10 lines a day.
Reports and marked lines are kept for 12 months, then deleted.
Usage numbers
After a session that ran on your phone because you have no paid plan or the month's Pro minutes are used up, the app can send us five items: the app version, the mode (conversation or video), the minutes, the lines heard, and whether this was the phone's first such session that day. They hold no sound, no words, no language, no install number and no phone model. We add them to the day's totals, by mode and by app version, each on its own, and keep no record per phone or per session. As with every connection to our servers, the server log keeps the time and the IP address. The app asks you when you first open it after installing or updating, and again at each open until you answer. You can turn the setting off or on in Settings at any time. In the European Union, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom the setting is off until you turn it on. The app itself sends no crash details and no install number.
Server records
Our servers keep technical records to keep the service working and safe: one-way codes in place of accounts, the time, the language pair, the length of each phrase, how long recognition and translation took, and errors. They contain no words and no sound. They are kept for up to 90 days.
2. Other people around you
When you use Listening or have translations spoken aloud, people near you are heard by the app. We do not store their voices or their words. Please tell the people you talk with that you are using a translator, and follow the laws where you are about listening to conversations.
3. Who else handles your information
We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising. These service providers work for us:
- Google Cloud runs our servers and our account database in the United States.
- OpenAI turns speech into text. Its speech service does not keep the sound after answering. When our first translation service fails, OpenAI translates the text instead; in that case OpenAI may keep the text up to 30 days to check for abuse, then deletes it.
- Google turns speech into text when OpenAI cannot (Chirp, on Google Cloud in the United States) and translates the text (Gemini, on Google Cloud). Google may keep text for a limited time to check for abuse. Gemini also names the thing in a picture square you tap in the camera.
- Google provides sign-in, Google Play payments, and the on-phone translation described in section 1.
Under their terms with us, OpenAI and Google may not use what we send them to train their models.
We may disclose information if the law requires it, for example a valid court order. Because we do not keep recordings or translated text, there is usually nothing of that kind to disclose.
If AmeriWay is sold or merged, this policy continues to apply to information we hold.
4. How long we keep it, in one place
- Sound, screen text and translations: not kept on our servers.
- History on your phone: 30 days, or the 7 or 90 days you choose. It never leaves your phone.
- Your account, plan, minutes and subscription: until you delete the account.
- Problem reports and lines marked as wrong: 12 months.
- Emails you send to support: 2 years.
- Payment and tax records of the company (such as Google Play order numbers): 7 years.
- Server records: up to 90 days.
- Usage numbers from sessions on your phone: day totals only, 2 years.
- Counts for the daily limits (camera taps, reports): 3 days.
- After you delete your account: a one-way code of your Google Play purchase and the minutes used that month, 40 days, so that deleting and making the account again does not start the month's minutes over.
- Backups of our database: up to 7 days, then replaced.
5. Deleting your account
In the app, open Settings, then Account, then Delete account. Your account, plan, minutes, keys, problem reports and marked lines are deleted at once. The one-way purchase code and that month's minutes stay for 40 days (section 4). A copy can remain in our database backups for up to 7 days; after that it is gone everywhere. You can also ask by email, as shown on the Delete account page. Deleting the account does not cancel a Google Play subscription, so cancel it in Google Play first. History on your phone is not part of the account: delete it in History, or remove the app.
6. Children
AmeriWay is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
7. Security
Connections between the app and our servers are encrypted. Each sign-in has its own key, which ends on its own and which we can turn off. Access to our servers and database is limited to the people who run them.
8. Your choices and rights
- Use the app without a paid plan to keep your speech and your text on your phone. Usage numbers can be turned off in Settings at any time.
- Turn off speaking aloud, Screen mode or Apps at any time.
- Ask us what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Write to the address below. We answer within 30 days, wherever you live.
- If your state gives you more privacy rights, we honor them.
9. Changes
If we change this policy, we post the new version in the app and on this website with a new effective date. If a change matters for how we use your information, we tell you in the app before it takes effect.
This policy is written in English. The Ukrainian and Russian versions are translations for your convenience. If they differ, the English version controls.
